Many musicians have success writing and singing original songs, but not too many make a name for themselves recording parodies of other people's music.
However, one such artist is "Weird Al" Yankovic, considered the most popular parody singer of our time. Yankovic turned 49 on October 23, and has been recording and performing his famous tongue-in-cheek novelty songs since high school, the main instrument being an accordion.
Yankovic got his start on Dr. Demento, the radio show that has played everything from the whacky to the downright crude side of music for over three decades. "Weird Al" is a master at taking popular hits and turning them into outrageous parodies. Some of his most popular songs include "Eat It", taken from Michael Jackson's "Beat It", "Like A Surgeon", from Madonna's "Like A Virgin", "My Bologna", from The Knack's #1 hit "My Sharona", and my personal favorite, "Another One Rides The Bus", the parody of Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust".
I wonder if he's come up with a parody for "Happy Birthday".
Enjoy the music!
