The baby girl in this video is a pretty accurate commentary on the future generation and their capacity to understand technology while failing to comprehend the simple things. Even at such a young age, she knows how to use her father's iPad, butflipping through a magazine is a huge challenge.
When my 8 year-old boy grabbed and held my hand last night it made me think of this. A fellow dad shared this with me and Iâve kept it close to remind myself.
SOONER THAN YOU THINK--
One day
Sooner than you think
The echoes of your child's laughter
Will have faded from your house
One day
Sooner than you think
Their bed will be empty
Their toys gone and their posters taken down
One day
Sooner than you think
Their messy room will be clean
And used for something else
One day
Sooner than you think
The house they lit up with their voices
Will be silent except for those soft sounds grown-ups make
One day
Sooner than you think
The basketball hoop in the driveway
Will stand unused all year
One day
Sooner than you think
The swing set in the backyard
Will be given away
One day
Sooner than you think
Your child's spot at the dinner table
Will be empty
One day
Sooner than you think
Your son or daughter will visit you
Just for awhile when they have time
One day
Sooner than you think
Your house will be quiet
Between their visits
But today your child is home
And they want to spend time with you
Put off your work
And take that time
Because, one day . . .

Recommendations for Preventing Salmonellosis
Wash hands with warm, soapy water for at least 20 seconds before and after handling raw meat and poultry. Also wash cutting boards, dishes and utensils with hot soapy water. Clean up spills right away.
Keep raw meat, fish and poultry away from other food that will not be cooked. Use separate cutting boards for raw meat, poultry and egg products and cooked foods.
Cook raw meat and poultry to safe internal temperatures before eating. The safe internal temperature for ground meat such as beef and pork is 160° F, and 165° F for poultry, as determined with a food thermometer.
Refrigerate raw meat and poultry within two hours after purchase (one hour if temperatures exceed 90° F). Refrigerate cooked meat and poultry within two hours after cooking.
The products subject to recall today bear the establishment number "P-963" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced on August 23, 24, 30 and 31 of this year.
As soon as we got the all clear to fly, the Majic Morning show flew to New York and broadcast live from our sister station WCBS. We reported back the things we saw and the way it felt at Ground Zero. We had never been attacked in my lifetime, and first the first time, we didn't feel safe, but we felt like it was like to be an American!

I talked with six people that lost their house in a fire today. One in Steiner Ranch and six in Bastrop. Every last one of them shared one thing in common--thanks. They were all grateful to make it out alive and for their pets and the few precious items they could carry with them.
They made it out with their lives, and not much else.
Then comes the hard part, the time to rebuild.
None of them have been even allowed back it to sift through the ashes.
My heart broke for each of the families, and for the hundreds more I didn't meet. They'll be in my prayers tonight.
The wall of smoke was mountainous.
Look close enough and you can see the fire within the smoke a hundred feet high.

Hundreds of people gather at a gas station and wait and wonder.

A stage collapse prior to the Sugarland show at the Indiana State Fair Saturday night killed at least five people and injured 43. High winds were to blame for the accident, which occurred after opening act Sara Bareilles had finished her set. Those injured and confirmed dead were located in the VIP "Sugar Pit" area.
Following the incident, Sugarland tweeted, "We are alright. We are praying for our fans and the people of Indianapolis. We hope you'll join us. They need our strength."
Sara Bareilles also tweeted, "I'm speechless and feel so helpless. Please send love and prayers to Indianapolis tonight. My heart aches for the lives lost."
Early Sunday morning, Indiana state police stated that there was a possibility of more deaths. Fair festivities were cancelled yesterday
Want to go âglampingâ this summer? âGlamping,â is short for âglamorous
camping.â Simply put, glamping encompasses outdoor wilderness experiences
that are somewhere between a hotel and a traditional campsite. Sure, you'll
sleep in tents, but they often have real beds with plush mattresses and Â
running water. The idea has been embraced by many who see the eco-friendly Â
benefits of mixing a traditionally free activity with a more luxurious vacation.
Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation announced Wednesday an immediate voluntary recall of approximately 36 million pounds of ground turkey meat because it may be contaminated with salmonella bacteria.
"I'd say it's one of the larger recalls," said Joel Brandenberger, president of the Washington-based National Turkey Federation, where he has worked for more than 20 years. Indeed, that's the weight of more than 36 fully-loaded Boeing 747 commercial airplanes.

I LOVE THIS SONG! I watched it three times in a row.
Last week's video of Pastor Joe Nelms delivering a hysterical pre-race prayer at a NASCAR event has been given the auto-tune treatment by the Gregory Brothers, and it's another catchy one.
Being a bird isn't easy. Sometimes, they get tired and don't feel like flying -- especially when a human is trying to do something to get them to move. Watch as this bird refuses to fly away when the windshield wiper moves. Pretty talented bird, right?
Pippa's flash of fame lands her on top of mid-year best baby name list
The good folks at Nameberry have released a mid-year best baby names list, based on name searches conducted on their site. No surprise, the list reveals some of this yearâs newsmakers â from hottie royals (Pippa), to hottie Hollywood celebs (Mila) to crush-worthy literary classics (Holden, Archer). And yes, while Posh and Becks went with Harper, which was on a 2010 hottest name list, one of their rumored back-up names â Luna â was among those most searched so far.
Nameberryâs Hottest Baby Names of 2011:
Pippa
It wasnât only Pippa Middletonâs bottom that attracted widespread attention at Aprilâs Royal Wedding; her name â both the familiar Pippa and the more formal Philippa â is the Number 1 hottest baby name of the year on Nameberry. Pippa ranks 35 on our most-searched list so far this year, after not appearing at all among our 200 most popular girlsâ names of 2010. While Kate is up too, itâs not nearly as hot as Pippa.
Asher
The soft, Biblical Asher takes the Hottest Boysâ Name spot by virtue of having unseated Henry as the all-time Number 1 name for boys on Nameberry. For the first time ever, Asher has pulled ahead to become Number 1.
Elula
New celebrity baby name trend: Star parents choose attention-getting name, then refuse to reveal the name theyâve picked, perhaps to heighten interest and publicity? Elula, the unusual Hebrew calendar name chosen by Isla Fisher and Sasha Baron Cohen for their second daughter, was not even in our database last year and now is the Number 38 most-searched name on Nameberry.
Everett
In a groundbreaking baby name move that feminists can applaud, boysâ names are for the first time being pushed into the limelight by the popularity of their female counterparts. The popularity of Everett, up 50 places on our most-searched list, was inspired by such stylish girlsâ choices as Eva and Evelyn.
Hadley
The success of the bestselling novel The Paris Wife has catapulted the intriguing name of Hemingwayâs first wife, Hadley Richardson, 50 spots up our list this year over last.
Arlo
Why does a starâs name sometimes languish for years, inspiring few little namesakes, and then suddenly take off? It happened most notably in the past decade with Ava, and now itâs Arlo, as in folksinger Guthrie, thatâs enjoying a popularity surge. Other o-ending names for boys heating up in 2011: Nico, Hugo, Otto. (Yes, Otto.)
Mila
Itâs the name of a gorgeous young star, Mila Kunis, PLUS it resembles a handful of trendy names -- Mia, Maya, Lila -- that are due for a hiatus. The result: A breakout baby name, up nearly 40 places this year.
Flynn
Finn is already hot, but cousin Flynn, baby name choice of Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr, is taking off. This one also nods to the Golden Age of Hollywood and Errol Flynn.
Ada, Adele, Adeline, Adelaide
If itâs a vintage girlsâ name that starts with Ad-, it canât miss this year, it seems. All these choices are leapfrogging up the Nameberry list, taking over where too-trendy cousins Ava and Addison left off.
Archer
Literary baby names are hot right now, especially when theyâre not too literary: Think Holden, Atticus, and yes Harper. Archer, as in Henry Jamesâ Portrait of a Lady and Edith Whartonâs Age of Innocence, is perfect: Itâs unusual, classic yet contemporary-feeling, and thereâs no danger of anyone actually having read the books.
The last FedEx logo designed by Lindon Leader, is on top of my list. I am sure until now everyone must have noticed the hidden white arrow between âeâ and âxâ letters, symbolizing the âmovementâ but I find this concept irresistibly intelligent.
Hartford Whalers
At first glance, the old Hartford Whalers logo clearly shows a whaleâs tail and a green W. Look closer, though, and youâll see that the white space forms an H, for Hartford.
Toblerone Logo
Yummyyyâ¦I am loving to analyze my favorite choclate logo. You must be thinking what is there to find out as it clearly shows the Swiss Alps? It might be as Toblerone originated in Bern, Switzerland - A city whose name is rumored to mean, âCity of bearsâ. But when you look at it again you will find a bear in the logo. Incredibly surprising that we had it several times but never noticed it, right?
SUN Logo
The SUN Microsystems logo was designed by Stanford Universityâs professor Vaughan Pratt, who skillfully arranged the letters âU and Nâ adjacent to each other forming the alphabetâSâ, when seen in perpendicular direction.

An amateur astronomer put together an awesome time-lapse video of the Australian night sky over the ocean. The clip includes 30 hours of exposure (donât worry, itâs condensed down into two minutes and 41 seconds), which took over one year to compile.
The video montage includes clouds gliding across the heavens, sparking stars, moving waters and plenty more. Below, watch Alex Cherneyâs award-winning video:
A dust storm up to 50 miles wide and a mile high descended on the Phoenix area on Tuesday night, grounding flights, forcing drivers to stop and causing thousands of power outages.
Towering over skyscrapers and grounding flights, the wall of dust swept across the desert from the south at around nightfall, blanketing downtown Phoenix.
The National Weather Service said strong winds with gusts of more than 60 miles per hour moved the dust cloud northwest through Phoenix and the cities of Avondale, Tempe and Scottsdale.
More than a dozen communities in the area also were placed under a severe thunderstorm watch.
An aspiring seagull videographer stole a GoPro video camera while it was set on record and took some great shots. Watch as it shows you what it can see when it flies in the air -- and catch some behind-the-scenes footage of it making noise near the camera.
Follow-up:
Seagull stole my video camera in Cannes France. I found it on the castle wall, where I had to climb.
Baby hummingbirds are adorable, but they are twice as cute when one of them bonds with a young boy. Watch the boy teach the bird the ways of the world and help him learn how to fly. If this doesn't warm your heart, I don't know what what will.
The video has over a million views on Youtube
The followup from the boy:
This is a baby hummingbird I rescued after it was attacked.
The song is "Better Together" by Jack Johnson.
UPDATE!!! when she thought she was ready to leave (and she was) she flew off to her favorite patch of the back yard, and her instincts instantly kicked in, and now she's just like all the other hummingbirds. for those that are concerned that she has imprinted on humans and wouldn't survive in the wild, don't worry, she is thriving. she has even successfully migrated and returned back to my yard. and for those who think i didn't know what i was doing, i did NOT feed her plain sugar water. i went outside 3 times a day and caught flies from my compost bin in big bags, crushed them, and mixed them in as well. I also helped her learn to catch flies while flying (not in the video because you obviously wouldn't be able to see the flies). in the end, i don't think it could have worked out any better
Today I found out why zippers have a YKK on them.  The YKK stands for Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha (say that five times fast). In 1934 Tadao Yoshida founded Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha (translated Yoshida Industries Limited). This company is now the worlds foremost zipper manufacturer, making about 90% of all zippers in over 206 facilities in 52 countries. In fact, they not only make the zippers, they also make the machines that make the zippers; no word on if they make the machines that make the parts that make up the machines that make the zippers.
Their largest factory in Georgia makes over 7 million zippers per day.
In any event, Mr. Yoshidaâs company zipped to number one by practicing the âCycle of Goodnessâ, as he called it. Namely, âNo one prospers unless he renders benefit to others.â Using this principle, he endeavored to create the best zippers out there that would hold up over long periods of time in the end product. This in turn would benefit both the manufacturers who used his zippers and the end customer and because of these things benefit his company with higher repeat and referral sales, thus completing the âCycle of Goodnessâ *zen moment*
So next time youâre zipping up, take a moment to remember Mr. Yoshida
Dad's big day is coming up. What are you going to get him? If you haven't made a decision yet, maybe this list of gifts to stay away from will help ...Do Not Get Dad ...
... That stupid annoying singing fish that goes on the wall. A better idea: A gift certificate to a fishing store.
... A money clip -- they can't hold everything the way a wallet can. So, get the wallet instead.
... One of those BBQ Chef's hats -- they look ridiculous. Better idea: some prime steaks.
... A baseball cap -- Dads don't have a shortage of these. Nice sunglasses would be a much better gift.
Who says there's a recession going on?According to a new survey from the National Retail Federation, the average shopper will spend $106 on dad this Father's Day, up 13 percent from last year -- and the most in the survey's eight-year history.Of course, even this year's Father's Day takes a back seat to Mother's Day, where the average shopper spent $141.The top spending categories for dad include:
Grill Daddy. This gadget is a heavy-duty grill brush that drips water through the brush, creating steam. It really works. It comes in several styles and truly can make a filthy grill rack pretty darned clean. You can find them online for $12 to $50, depending on the model.
Cold Fire. This is a handy aerosol fire extinguisher that is inexpensive, doesn't take up much space and actually works. Priced about $20.
Big Top Cupcake. This silicone baking set makes it easy to make a fancy and unusual cupcake-shaped cake. Seriously. Also about $20.
Yoshi Blade. It's a ceramic knife that really outperforms many of its metallic brethren. Just remember, though, it's a slicing knife, not a chopper. About $20. (And if you want to know more about knives for outdoor uses, see our new guide to deals on knives.)
Furminator. This pet grooming tool isn't cheap, but it seems to work pretty well. It comes in a variety of sizes and styles (hence the price variability, starting at $12).
5Â "as seen on TV" products you can live without:
BarkOff. It's supposed to magically stop dogs from barking. Tell that to the dogs, if they can hear you over their barking. If you want to test it out anyway, you can order it for about $10.
Gyro Bowl. An interesting idea that gets a close-but-not-quite.â The bowl is supposed to keep little ones from spilling their food as they toddle around. It can work for the less active kid, but forget about it if you've got one of those high-energy models. About $13.
Robo Stir. This thing is supposed to keep stirring your soup, gravy or whatever while you're busy elsewhere. Stick with the spoon. About $11.
Snazzy Napper. OK, it's a blanket with holes so you can still breathe while you're sleeping in some public place. Eeesh. Get a room. Prices start at $15.
Jupiter Jack. The idea is to turn your car radio into a cellphone speaker. But a lot of folks complain it just doesn't work or only works a little bit, some of the time. That's not something you want to deal with when the gadget is intended to help make your driving experience easier. About $10.
Makes You Stink Like Hog Heaven
Throw away that musty old bacon cologne; there's a new eau de piglette here to make sweet porky love to your nostrils. Que, from Pork Barrel BBQ, was forged from the sweet crackling char of Mt. Oink.
Thereâs not much worse for a high school student than having your dad wave at you as you get on the school bus every morning. Just ask Rain Price, who is thrilled the school year is finally over.
River Road in Canyon Lake crosses the Guadalupe River four times as it winds 10.6 miles between Loop 337 and Canyon Lake Drive in the picturesque Texas Hill Country. A great way to take in the skyscraper cypress trees and colorful limestone bluffs is by tubing down the river. Outfitters offer shuttles that will bring you back to where you started. The river banks are lined with camping sites, concession stands and restaurants. Traveltex.com
An Australian company just unveiled a new $150,000 gold-plated barbecue grill, setting a new standard in grill luxury (that standard being, âanyâ):
Itâs the perfect gift for:

They still have tickets for today's 10:30 matinee and the show later tonight.

The Social Security Administration has come out with the list of the most popular baby names of 2010. Many of the names have connections to movies or television. Girls
When the Good Lord was creating mothers, He was into his sixth day of âovertimeâ when an angel appeared and said, âYouâre doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.â
And the Lord said, âHave you read the specs on this order?
She has to be completely washable, but not plastic;
Have 180 movable parts... all replaceable;
Run on black coffee and leftovers;
Have a lap that disappears when she stands up;
A kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair;
And six pairs of hands.â
The angel shook her head slowly and said, âSix pairs of hands... no way.â
âItâs not the hands that are causing me problems,â said the Lord. âItâs the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have.â
âThatâs on the standard model?â asked the angel.
The Lord nodded. âOne pair that sees through closed doors when she asks, âWhat are you kids doing in there?â when she already knows. Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldnât but what she has to know, and of course the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say, âI understand and I love youâ without so much as uttering a word.â
âLord,â said the angel, touching His sleeve gently, âGo to bed. Tomorrow...â
âI canât,â said the Lord, âIâm so close to creating something so close to myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick... can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger... and can get a nine-year-old to stand under a shower.â
The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. âItâs too soft,â she sighed.
âBut sheâs tough!â said the Lord excitedly. âYou cannot imagine what this mother can do or endure.â
âCan it think?â
âNot only can it think, but it can reason and compromise,â said the Creator.
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek. âThereâs a leak,â she pronounced. âI told You You were trying to push too much into this model.â
âItâs not a leak,â said the Lord. âItâs a tear.â
âWhatâs it for?â
âItâs for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness, and pride.â
âYou are a genius,â said the angel.
The Lord looked somber. âI didnât put it there,â He said.

If you didnât read the title of this article, and if you just glanced at these pictures, what would you think that was? Perhaps a beautiful piece of artwork created by a child? Or maybe a tapestry of colorful fabric? Who would ever guess that is a patch of three billion tulips?
Yep, this is where much of the worldâs tulips are grown each year. These particular flowers are in Holland, and they will be sent to supermarkets all over the world to be sold. Altogether, Holland produces about nine billion tulips each year, which equates to more than one for each person on the planet.
As you can see, tourists often gather around the flowers to inhale the aroma and appreciate this once a year phenomenon. I bet this is an incredible sight to see in person. It is only a short time each year when the colors of the flowers are this vibrant and rich.

Iowa bulldog Lucy Brown's slobber, sloth and bloodshot eyes helped the precocious pup grab the greatest crown a drooling canine can ever dream of.
The 3-year-old from Johnston, with a squat stance and slobber to spare, bested 49 dogs Monday to be named this year's "Beautiful Bulldog" for the Drake Relays in Iowa.
"She just thinks that the world goes around her. You know, Queen Lucy," said Nancy Brown, Lucy's owner, adding that the royal crown befits her beloved dog. "This is over the top."

Dyngus Day or Wet Monday (PolishÅmigus-Dyngus or lany poniedziaÅek) is the name for Easter Monday in Poland. In the Czech Republic it is called velikonoÄnà pondÄlà or pomlázka. In Slovakia veľkonoÄný pondelok (Easter Monday) is called Å ibaÄka/PolievaÄka or OblievaÄka. too. All countries practice a unique custom on this day.
In Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic[1] traditionally, early in the morning boys awake girls by pouring a bucket of water on their head and striking them about the legs with long thin twigs or switches made from willow, birch or decorated tree branches; however, the earliest documented[citation needed] records of Dyngus Day in Poland are from the 15th century, almost half a millennium after Poland adopted Christianity.
One theory is that Dyngus originates from the baptism on Easter Monday of Mieszko I (Duke of the Polans, c. 935â992) in 966 AD, uniting all of Poland under the banner of Christianity. Dyngus and Åmigus were twin pagan gods; the former representing water and the moist earth.
If you're a parent, you know that getting your finicky kid to eat is like trying to push a bolder up a mountain of molasses. It isn't easy. A kid's menu, at best consists of about five or six things that he or she will eat. So what's a parent to do? Well, at a recent survey taken in a small US town, about 100 kids gave the answer to their five favorite foods, not counting desserts. While this survey no way dictates that all kids will answer the same, this should give you a pretty decent idea of what you're kid will eat if you're having problems getting food in his or her mouth. So without further ado, our top five kids' goods.
Coming in at number 5 was no surprise. Spaghetti and Meatballs was the overall number 5 choice. Kids seemed to like this more out of the can than home made, however. And no fancy sauces like Marinara. Just plain out tomato or meat sauce was all they needed. Plus, no grated cheese on top. And not too many meatballs. Just 3 or 4 would be enough. Serving your kid a plate of spaghetti and meatballs would be more than enough to put a smile on his or her face.
In the number 4 slot was another food that was no surprise. Fried chicken. Parents, don't bother making this at home. Overwhelmingly, kids voted on Colonel Sanders Kentucky Fried Chicken and white meat only. And don't forget the biscuit that comes with it. They said without the biscuit it isn't as good. Makes you wonder if they loved the biscuit more than the chicken. Oh and the extra crispy gets a big thumbs up.Â
The third most popular meal on the menu was the hot dog. It was interesting to see that the hot dog was more popular than the hamburger, but not by much. As for how they liked their hot dog, that varied quite a bit. Some kids liked them just with mustard. Others preferred mustard and sauerkraut. And then there was that group of kids who enjoyed their hot dogs with ketchup. Nobody seemed to like relish or anything fancy on their hot dog and NO cheese dogs. That was another big yuck.
Just missing the number top spot and coming in at number 2 was macaroni and cheese. Again, don't try making this at home. This has to be, almost unanimously, Kraft Mac And Cheese. And of course no mac and cheese dish is complete without pouring ketchup all over it. By the time they are done with the ketchup you can just about see the mac and cheese.
Finally, coming in at number 1 was Hamburger on a bun was a sure winner. Again, nothing fancy as far as condiments. No onions was big on the list of yucks. Kids absolutely hate onions and don't want them anywhere near their hamburger. Just some ketchup is all they require. And the buns have to be hamburger buns. No regular hard rolls and certainly NO seeds. Also, no whole wheat buns or rolls.
And there you have it. The top 5 favorite foods of children. So if you're having trouble getting your kid to eat, you might want to start with these. If you need other favorites outside the top 5, at number 6 was pizza and at number 7 was peanut butter and jelly. Rounding out the top 10 was bologna at 8, salami and cheese at 9 and grilled cheese at 10.
A 6-month reprieve with Form 4868
The IRS has a simple form that allows you an automatic six-month extension to file your taxes. It's Form 4868 (.pdf file), and it's easy to complete -- even without an accountant.
The form starts by asking for your name, address and Social Security number. It then asks you to estimate your tax liability and send any balance due. If you make this payment and cover at least 90% of your real liability, you win. You won't owe a late filing or late payment penalty.
You can use the IRS' Free File system online, pick up the form at any IRS office or order it toll-free at 800-TAX-FORM (800-829-3676). If you're using tax preparation software at home, you can file by computer and receive an acknowledgement by email.
You must file it by the regular due date of your return. It is an automatic extension. You don't have to give the IRS any reason. You can get it even if the only reason you haven't filed is that you were lazy or didn't want to think about it.
Form 4868 gives you until Oct. 15 to complete and send in your return. But, regardless of the form, if you think you owe money to the government, you must send it in by April 18.
You can ask for only one extension. So you really do have to file by Oct. 15.
Air France passenger Nate Bolt created a time lapsed video of an entire flight he recently took from San Francisco to Paris. While snapping a photograph every 2 minutes on the flight, Nate accidentally documented the Aurora Borealis out the airplane window, and this 30,000 foot perpective of the Northern Lights is truly awe-inspiring. You can jump ahead to 1:08 to see the Aurora Borealis, but the rest of the video is equally awesome.
GAS PRICES: Approaching Record High
Gas prices continue to rise. They've jumped nearly 20 cents in the last two weeks and are approaching a record high, according to a survey released yesterday. And the bad news is that they're not expected to go down any time soon with the continued unrest in the Middle East.
The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gas is $3.76, according to the Lundberg Survey. That's just 35 cents away from the record high of $4.11, which was set in July 2008.
Here's the link to the cheapest gas prices in Austin www.austingasprices.com I would bookmark it and also search by zipcode or use the heat map feature!

There was once a businessman who was sitting by the beach in a small Brazilian village.
As he sat, he saw a Brazilian fisherman rowing a small boat towards the shore having caught quite few big fish.
The businessman was impressed and asked the fisherman, âHow long does it take you to catch so many fish?â
The fisherman replied, âOh, just a short while.â
âThen why donât you stay longer at sea and catch even more?â The businessman was astonished.
âThis is enough to feed my whole family,â the fisherman said.
The businessman then asked, âSo, what do you do for the rest of the day?â
The fisherman replied, âWell, I usually wake up early in the morning, go out to sea and catch a few fish, then go back and play with my kids. In the afternoon, I take a nap with my wife, and evening comes, I join my buddies in the village for a drink â we play guitar, sing and dance throughout the night.â
The businessman offered a suggestion to the fisherman.
âI am a PhD in business management. I could help you to become a more successful person. From now on, you should spend more time at sea and try to catch as many fish as possible. When you have saved enough money, you could buy a bigger boat and catch even more fish. Soon you will be able to afford to buy more boats, set up your own company, your own production plant for canned food and distribution network. By then, you will have moved out of this village and to Sao Paulo, where you can set up HQ to manage your other branches.â
The fisherman continues, âAnd after that?â
The businessman laughs heartily, âAfter that, you can live like a king in your own house, and when the time is right, you can go public and float your shares in the Stock Exchange, and you will be rich.â
The fisherman asks, âAnd after that?â
The businessman says, âAfter that, you can finally retire, you can move to a house by the fishing village, wake up early in the morning, catch a few fish, then return home to play with kids, have a nice afternoon nap with your wife, and when evening comes, you can join your buddies for a drink, play the guitar, sing and dance throughout the night!â
The fisherman was puzzled, âIsnât that what I am doing now?â
classic Brazilian story, probably also present in other cultures.
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
Weâve learned how to make a living, but not a life. Weâve added years to life not life to years. Weâve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. Weâve done larger things, but not better things.
Weâve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. Weâve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. Weâve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit deleteâ¦
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesnât cost a cent.
Remember, to say, âI love youâ to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
No matter how friendly the salesperson or how much money you spend, one thing is for sure: The dealer will never give you what your used car is worth.
2. Donât show a dirty car.
It may sound obvious, but a clean car is easier to sell than a dirty one. The logic is simple: People like buying new things, and few people want someone else's lived-in, worn-out garbage. We're not just talking a simple wash and wax here, either. Go for the works:
3. Donât waste money on repairs prior to sale.
This one is a personal choice. Some people sell their cars with a laundry list of needs, while others fix everything under the sun before moving on. The key, however, is moderation
4. Donât list your car in a vague or illogical manner.
The old saw holds that the three most important words in real estate are location, location, location. In car sales, it's advertising, advertising, advertising.
5. Donât use bad photos.
These days, most private used-car sales take place on the Internet. The Internet is a visual medium, so it makes sense to cater to people's curiosity: Photograph your car thoroughly, and shoot more pictures than you think you need.
6. Donât sell at the wrong time.
For most people, a car purchase isn't taken lightly. You'd think the month you sell your car wouldn't be that important, but it is. Don't sell a car in winter, when people aren't inclined to stand outside to look at it.
7. Donât offer untrustworthy proof of condition.
Knowledge is power, and when it comes to used cars, the more you know, the more powerful you feel. Few things lure a buyer like a pre-purchase inspection from a reputable source.
8. Donât be unprepared to show it.
Let's paint a picture: Joe Carbuyer shows up at your house, license in hand, ready to test drive your car. The car is in the garage, buried under bicycles and assorted lawn equipment.
9. Donât put too much or too little stock in âblue bookâ values.
Comforting though they may be, published estimates of used-car values, such as the Kelley Blue Book, are just that: estimates
10. Donât hold back the sale because you don't like the potential buyer.
Don't laugh; it's a common mistake. Many people assume that they have to like the person they're selling their car to, especially if they have an emotional attachment to the vehicle in question.

The supermoon phenomenon was awaited with bated breath by avid moon watchers, astronomy enthusiasts and astrologers who had prophesied calamities on the occasion. The NASA had reassured people that the event, which is a coincidence of a full moon on lunar perigee, will not cause any catastrophes.
The celestial event has passed without causing anything untoward, but left in its trail spectacular visuals of the 'largest' moon in almost 20 years.
From Space.com
Thanks to a fluke of orbital mechanics that brings the moon closer to Earth than that it has been in more than 18 years, the biggest full moon of 2011 will occur on Saturday, leading some observers to dub it a "supermoon."
On Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, the moon will arrive at its closest point to the Earth in 2011:Â a distance of 221,565 miles (356,575 kilometers) away. And only 50 minutes earlier, the moon will officially be full. [Photos: Our Changing Moon]
At its peak, the supermoon of March may appear 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than lesser full moons (when the moon is at its farthest from Earth), weather permitting. Yet to the casual observer, it may be hard to tell the difference.
The supermoon will not cause natural disasters, such as the Japan earthquake, a NASA scientist has stressed.
Spotting the supermoon
The moon has not been in a position to appear this large since March 1993.
In December 2008, there was a near-supermoon when the moon turned full four hours away from its perigee â the point in its orbit that is closest to Earth. But this month, the full moon and perigee are just under one hour apart, promising spectacular views, depending on local conditions. [Infographic: 'Supermoon' Full Moons Explained]
Although a full moon theoretically lasts just a moment, that moment is imperceptible to ordinary observation.
During the day or so before and after, most will speak of seeing the nearly full moon as "full," with the actual shaded area of the lunar surface being so narrow â and changing in apparent width so slowly â that it is hard for the naked eye to tell whether it's present, or which side it is.Â
Supermoon making waves
In addition, the near coincidence of Saturdayâs full moon with perigee will result in a dramatically large range of high and low ocean tides.Â
The highest tides will not, however, coincide with the perigee moon but will actually lag by up to a few days depending on the specific coastal location. For example, in Wilmington, N.C., the highest tide (5.3 feet) will be attained at 11:21 p.m. EDT on March 20.

My wife, after seeing the King's Speech,  has been talking about Colin Firth this Colin Firth that . . . and I know he's one of Terri's favorites. So when I ran accross some pictures of him and after talking about the "Fictional Men We Wish Were Real" and he was at the top of the list, decided to post these.
Enjoy!
We can never get enough cute-kid-with-pet videos. In this one, a little boy and his dog try to catch some Zs together. They're both sitting on the couch and can't seem to stay awake. The weird thing is they look surprisingly alike with their eyes closed.
Imagine you're a five-month-old baby and you're seeing your mother blow her nose for the first time. That's what's going on here, as little Emerson can't decide if the sound is funny or frightening.
The original CNN video I posted has had over 6o million views, this one is every bit as dramatic.
- AT&T* today announced it has implemented international calling and texting support efforts for U.S. residential wireless and wireline consumers trying to connect with loved ones in Japan, following last week's tragic earthquake and tsunami.
Effective beginning last week, March 11, and continuing through March 31, AT&T wireless postpaid customers will not be charged for:
* International long distance usage from the United States and Puerto Rico to Japan
* Text messages to Japan, originated from a U.S. wireless number
In addition, and also effective March 11 through March 31, residential wireline customers can seek credits for up to 60 minutes of direct dial calling to Japan:
* Upon receiving their wireline bill, customers may call AT&T to receive adjusted calling for up to 60 minutes. In other words, no charges for up to 60 minutes of call time from the United States to Japan between March 11 and March 31.
For any of the above activity, customers will either see no charges reflected on their monthly statement, or they will see a full credit applied to their statement for activity between March 11 and March 31.
Don't you just love your digital camera? It's got loads of cool features; of course you'll only use about three of them because you have no idea what the other ones do. Filmmaker David Packer made this funny clip to explain what all of those extra modes do.
This is really nuts. The people from National Geographic have built a house inspired by the Pixar's movie Up! Yes, a house tied to gas balloons that actually flies. I'm so giddy I can barely type.
Sure, the 16 by 16 feet house is not a full house, but I don't care. It flies for real, thanks to three hundred weather balloons full of helium. The Up! houseâwhich will be part of a new National Geographic TV series called How Hard Can It Be?âreached 10,000 feet and flew for about one hour. [My Modern Met via Fotomaf via Necedades]

I would just love to have a place to put all my stuff I have to haul around. It would get a little hot in the summer.
The Storseisundet Bridge, or its real name Storseisundbrua, is a cantilever bridge which means that itâs built using structures that project horizontally into space, supported on only one end. That method resulted this time in a bridge that literally looks drunk, you get dizzy just by looking at it. The 280 yards long Storseisundbrua is located south of Kristiansund in Norway and is the the longest of the eight bridges that make up the âAtlantic Roadâ.
Until keyboards can actually perceive the emotional content of our digital messages (not so far off!), emoticons may be the simplest method of clarifying tone. I've had to let go of my own perception that emoticons are silly. They may currently be our best tool for elevating the emotional clarity of digital messages.

Don't have time to watch all the ads from the Superbowl? Were you too busy eating Buffalo Wings and missed a couple? Here they all are in 2 minutes. These are TV ads so remember some can be a little PG13 . . .
1. They love unconditionally â This is the one thing that we should always take to heart. We can love without having to expect anything in return. This, I believe, is a gift. Love someone for who they are and not for what they can give.
2. They are loyal â No matter what happens, they will stick by you. There was a point in our lives when we lost everything, and that included some of the people we thought were friends, but our pets remained with us no matter what. Loyalty is a good trait to learn from our pets. Are you loyal to your friends and your family?
3. They will always ask for help â Our pets rely on us for their lives. They send signals to us when they are hungry or thirsty. We too should know when we need to ask for help. We all have our weaknesses, and it is not a sign of weakness to ask for help, especially when we need it. I am not saying to rely on others for your living, but what is important is to have the courage to ask for help when you need it. Do not be afraid to open up and talk to someone.
4. They never hold grudges â There are times when we need to discipline our pets when they do something wrong. However, one thing we can learn from them is that they never hold that against us. We sometimes hold grudges when we are being scolded. Being open to forgiveness and asking for forgiveness is important.
5. They know how to show appreciation â Our dog, Honey, always wags her tail when she is happy and especially when she is given a treat. Our cats purr and rub their bodies against us when we pet them. They are not afraid to show their appreciation. We too can learn from that. It is always good to tell others from time to time that we appreciate them or better yet, show them with a simple hug, kiss or through little tokens of appreciation.
6. They appreciate alone time â Our cats like playing with each other, but one thing I like about them is that they also value and can appreciate being by themselves. I know some people hate being alone, but I think there is also a balance. We should not be afraid to have our alone time. Take that time to develop and learn things that can benefit you in the long run.
7. They are nurturing â When our mom cat, Mallows, was alive, she was one of the most dedicated moms I have ever encountered. She would always make sure that the needs of her babies were met before her own. Even our dog, Honey, who thinks she is a cat, took turns taking care of the little kittens even though they were not her kids, and they didnât even belong to the same species. We could all learn to be nurturing to our kids. For those of us who are not parents, maybe we could learn to nurture our siblings. It never hurts to be loving and caring to others.
8. They are creative â I know some animals can sing and talk, while others are even cast in movies. Animals have a way of being able to show their creativity, and they are not afraid to do so. We too should hone whatever God-given talents we have and not be afraid to share them. We are all born creative. Maybe not in the same capacity, but we do have strengths that others can draw inspiration from.
9. They are who they are â Even if our dog thinks she is a cat, Honey is still the dog that she is. She barks, she behaves like a dog, and she does not pretend to be anything else. We too need to learn to be comfortable, and just be who we are. The only way we can find true contentment and happiness is by being able to find out who we are and to love ourselves. We do not need to pretend we are someone we are not.
10. They can live simple lives â Give them what they need, and they are happy. Give them extra, and itâs a bonus. We all can learn to be happy living a simple life. Some people go through life unhappy because they do not know the difference between what they need, and what they want. I am not saying we should not go for our goals in life, but I am simply stating that we can be happy even if we do not get everything we want. If we do get what we want, then consider it a bonus!
The American Kennel Club says the Labrador retriever is the most popular dog in America for the 20th straight year.
The German shepherd is ranked second, with the Yorkshire terrier third, the beagle fourth and golden retriever fifth.
The AKC also has added three dogs to its list of registered breeds.
They include an ancient Mexican breed, the Xoloitzcuintli (shoh-loh-eets-KWEEN'-tlee). The calm, "noble," pointy-eared dog â also called Xolo (SHOH'-loh), comes in three sizes. Some varieties are hairless.
The Norwegian Lundehund (LUN'-du-hun) is handsome, athletic and playful. The sure-footed dogs hunted Puffins on treacherous cliffs before the bird became a protected species.
The Entlebucher (ehnt-lu-boo-KAHR') Mountain Dog made its mark as a cattle herder in Switzerland. The floppy-eared breed is described as energetic, loyal and "persistent."

Making payments with your smartphone at Starbucks is simple enough. Simply download the app for your iPhone, iPod Touch or Blackberry device and when you make a purchase, hold it out for the cashier to scan. The app deducts the purchase from your Starbucks account, which can be reloaded with credit cards or PayPal.
With any mobile payments system, the first question many ask is "will the people trust it?" After a year long trial, we're figuring that Starbuck's nationwide launch indicates that people indeed trust the service enough to use it. Will users be as trusting later this year when we start to see more and more mobile payments apps launch using Near Field Communications chips instead of bar codes? We'll see.
The company says that an Android app is in the works.

You want a hot dog, a soda, maybe some popcorn and even nachos.
The internal debate begins. You either rush to the concession stand, face a long line and miss a critical moment of the game or sit hungry and miserable as your stomach rumbles.
Thanks to new technology that made its debut Saturday, the days of debating are over.
