Important Information In The Wake of The Boston Marathon Bombings

Here are four important tips and websites in the wake of what happened yesterday at the Boston Marathon.

1.  The Boston Police Department and FBI have asked for ANY photos, videos, or information from yesterday.  They're stressing that NOTHING is irrelevant.  You can reach the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or email them at Boston@ic.fbi.gov.  There's also a Boston Crime Tips Hotline at 800-494-8477.

2.  The Boston Mayor's hotline if you're looking for a loved one is 617-635-4500.

(And both the Red Cross and Google have set up websites to help connect people with their friends and family in Boston.)

3.  It's best to text people in Boston rather than call them.  The cell towers there are overloaded, and it helps to keep them open for emergencies.

4.  The Red Cross says they have enough blood AND enough money to handle the crisis.  Instead of donating blood now, wait for a few weeks or months.  You can still donate money, but make sure you go to the source and watch out for scams.

I Love My Allergy Drops!!

My allergy drops and carrying case from Texan Allergy!

After 7 years of suffering from seasonal allergies, I finally decided that 2013 was the year to do something about it!  First things first, I hate shots!!  One of the reasons I put off getting treatment for my allergies was the fear of allergy shots.  I also did not feel I wanted to deal with weekly appoitments to get the shots.  I'm busy just like you are and I didn't want the inconvenience of it.

All of this changed when I found out about Texan Allergy!  They told me about their Allergy drops that can be used to treat allergies.  The great thing about these drops is that I can take them with me and there is no need for weekly appointments to get them.  This was great news.  I also found out that the test for my allergies would only take 90 minutes, not hours or weeks.   Last month I went in for my test which was painless and comfortable.  I was tested for 58 different local allergens and I found out in less than 2 hours what I was allergic to.

My arm during my allergy tests at Texan Allergy.

I found out I am not allergic to cedar or ragweed, which I thought I was, but  I am highly allergic to molds and dust mites!  I now take 3 drops a day under my tongue!  That's it and I already feel the difference.
Don’t let anyone in your family suffer from allergies anymore. Set an appointment today with Texan Allergy with locations all around Austin.  You can call them at 686-5068 or vist their website for more information.  Start feeling better today!!

What 200 Calories Looks Like!

200 Calories of Fruit Loops

We are what we eat and lately I have been focusing on not just what I eat but how much I eat.   Portion control is so important when it comes to healthy eating!  For me the lines have gotten blurry.  If you've been wondering why it's so hard to lose weight, start with your portion sizes.  You'll be amazed at how many extra calories you may be eating everyday!  I found this great website with pictures of 200 calorie portions.  It seems that the healthier you eat the more you can eat!  Check it out here!

Extreme Home Makeover Comes To Bastrop!

Here is the post I did last year when I was on the set of Extreme Makeover Home Edition in Bastrop.  The Zdroj family had lost everything in the 2011 wildfires and the wonderful team with Extreme Home Makeover built them a brand new home!!  The show was cancelled shortly after the Bastrop taping but the producers told me they would air it during the 2012 holiday season.  Well, the wait is over!!  Extreme Make Over Holiday Edition airs tonight at 8pm on ABC and you will get to see the the Zdroj family of Bastrop say "Move That Bus"!!  Below is my original post with pictures from last year!!

It really was a heartwarming experience!  Enjoy it with your family tonight! - Terri

I had an amazing day yesterday in Bastrop!  I was able to be on the set of Extreme Home Makeover Home Edition to see them put the final touches on the beautiful home they built for the very deserving Zdroj family.   I have never seen so many people in one place coming together for such a great cause. The family is going to see there home for the first time today and the episode will air a year from now during the holiday season!  Check out my pictures below and get a first look at the fabulous Zdroj home!

While we were on the set we met our fantastic tour guide Gregg was able to show us the process of building a home and putting it all together.  It's like the circus coming to town, setting up tents and getting the job done!  We had a fantastic catered meal from a local restaurant and got to hang out with some of the cast and producers.  Everything is donated and you could feel all of the positive energy and excitement too!!

All of the designers and producers live in these donated trailers.  Ty Pennington's is the one in the middle with the green windshield.

This is Gregg our wonderful tour guide!  He said they had just build 7 new homes in Joplin , Missouri which was hit hard by tornadoes this past summer.  They are headed to Knoxville, Tennessee later this week to build another new home for a deserving family!

My favorite furniture store, The Home Consignment Center furnished the entire Zdroj family home!!  I spoke with Vanessa Price the Senior Design Producer for Extreme Home Makeover Home Edition and she told me that this is the first time in the 9 year history of the show that they had used just one store to furnish and entire home.!!  She told me she had never seen such a great selection of furniture and that they had everythng they needed is stock!  Like me,  she is a huge fan of The Home Consignment Center!!   Karen and Kristen, the wonderful mother/daughter team at the store were on hand to stage the new home too!!

This is one of my favorite pieces picked for the Zdroj home from The Home Consignment
Center

This is just some of the gorgeous furniture getting ready to be loaded on the truck and into the new Zdorj home!
