The iconic American painting "Amercian Gothic" is one of my favorites. I stumbled upon an article on the inspiration for it and it so simple and sweet that I just had to share it with you.
First it was a Nick Cage lookalike from an 1870 photogragh that had everyone talking that he could be a vampire, but now a remarkable likeness of his Face/Off costar John Travolta is showing up on Ebay for $50,000! Could John Travolta be a vampire too?  The resemblance is kind of eerie!! What do you think?

 Our Majic listeners called it!!  In our online poll you picked Scotty McCreery as the next American Idol! With a record 122 Million votes cast it was clear that Scotty was "In it to win it"!!  I was hoping Lauren would pull it out since it has been 5 years since a gal has won this thing!!  Maybe next year, if there is a next year!  I think everyone in the Top 5 will have amazing careers!  All season I have been thinking that Scotty looks like someone.....what do you think?Â

This weekend was the finale of Saturday Night Live and while the season started out great, the writing and the performances of the last few months were not the best. This weekends SNL was a pleasant surprise! Justin Timberlake was hilarious and Lady Gaga was great too! It all boils down to great writing and from the opening to the close this one was one of the best SNL's I have ever seen! Check out JT's opening monologue below!! So funny! Beyonce won the Millenium Award at the Billboard Music Awards last night and did one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen of her current hit " Run The World (Girls)! Using the lates technology it really is stunning!  Enjoy!
I was lucky enough to join some of our Majic listeners last night at the AT&T Center for the Josh Groban show last night!! If you have not seen Josh Groban perform live, you must!! He is amazing and may I add sweet and handsome too!! I first met Josh 10 years ago in Detroit when his career was just getting started, he is the same nice guy he was then! I love that!!
The semi-finals brought out everything last night on DWTS, drama, great dancing and injuries, including a scary one for Kym Johnson and her partner Hines Ward. Though the injury was very serious Kym performed all 3 dances last night with a few pain killers to help her along. These dancers really are amazing! Something new was added last night called the "Last Chance Cha Cha Cha"!  It was a dance off of all 4 couples with one getting a bonus 15 points added to their total score! Check out the video below to see who one and the leaderboard totals. Things aren't looking too good for the Karate Kid this week!

He is in good company, if you remember Chris Daughtry was sent home the same week several years ago and his career continues to skyrocket!  I expect the same thing will happen for James!  Judge Steven Tyler premiered his new video last night and American Idol Jordin Sparks debuted her new single "I Am Woman" and it's not Helen Reddy's version. Jordan looks fantastic!   Check it out below along with James Durbin's goodbye to American Idol!

Chris Jericho and fan favorite Cheryl Burke were sent home last night on DWTS!   I love that Chris had such a great sense of humor about it! Saying it was a good thing he was going home , since he had to go to the Royal Wedding and that would have been tough for rehearsals.  I was surprised to see Ralph Macchio up for elimination, but like American Idol no one is safe at this point.I loved the NKOTB and BSB performance, and Pia Toscanno looked and sounded lovely. Check out the performances below!
I love my Peeps, and I always seem to have some left over after Easter. Here is a fun recipe that is a colorful twist on the old Rice Krispie Treats recipe Enjoy!Â
3 tablespoons butter
35 Peeps
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
Â
In large pot, melt butter over low heat. Add Peeps and stir until completely melted. If using different colors, melt in separate color sections within the pot. Do not mix colors until Step 2. Remove pot from heat once butter is melted. Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
Â
Step 3 , Evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 1 1/2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool completely before cutting into desired shapes. Store in an airtight container.
What an amazing night on American Idol, even if they left Bruce Springsteen out of the telecast.  All 7 Idol hopefuls were fantastic, not a weak one in the bunch, but someone has to go home.  I think it may be fan favorite Jacob Lusk who had a hard time hearing his track when it messed up , he kept on  singing anyway!Â
My favorite performance this week was from James Durban who sang the Muse hit "Uprising" and was amazing!!
Kasey Abrams was also fabulous doing his rendition of Maroon 5's "Harder To Breathe". He even snuck in a kiss for J-Lo!

The natives were restless last night on American Idol last night! They have gotten brave and are starting to not only disagree with American Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine but were actually saying no and staying true to what they love to sing!! I love it!! They are such a talented group this year! My two favorite perfromances last night were Casey Abrams doing "Nature Boy" and Jabob Lusk doing "Bridge Over Troubled Water".  Who did you like?

Pia was voted off of American Idol last night after giving one of her best performances ever on Wednesday night!!  This is the one big problem I have with American Idol.  Not matter how great and talented the woman are over the last 5 years men have won the competition!!  Everyone sent home in the Top 13 this year have been female!!  Of the Top 8 left on Idol  Haley and Lauren are the only gals left in the competition.  I wish American Idol would do what DWTS does and have the audience vote and the judges vote go in together.  See Pia's shocking elimination below!

Week three of "Dancing with the Stars" was touted as an "emotional" journey in which each couple performed a personal story to a song of their choice. The biggest surprise of the night was Maksim Chmerkovskiy falling at the beginning of his dance with Kirstie Alley. They recovered and completed their dance but their 21 points placed them below four other couples on the leader board. Also falling in points were Ralph Macchio and partner Karina Smirnoff, who also earned 21 points. Supermodel Petra Nemcova and NFL star Hines Ward were the top dancers on Monday with 25 points each. Showing tremendous improvement former playmate Kendra Wilkinson tied for third with Disney star Chelsea Kane. After a record 55 million votes...over 25 million more than last week and setting a new American Idol record two finalists were sent home. Â I think both will have great careers ahead of them.
It seems that the iconic wedding gown worn by Princess Diana on her wedding day was not the only one made. It turns out there was a backup in case the orignal dress was seen or photographed before her wedding day. Take a look a the never before seen "backup" dress below.  David and Elizabeth Emmanuel who designed the original dress also designed this one.

I love SATC and forgot how great those shows were! Â I watched every one of them on HBO and have seen them all a dozen times since. Â Â This past weekend I discovered them again on the E network. They are running all of the original episodes (with a bit of editing) and I am falling in love with them all over again!! Â It's my new guilty weekend pleasure!!
At this stage of the game on American Idol every vote counts. Â Tonight's results proved that! Â I also believe the order of the performances early on can make a difference. Â Tonight's results proved that too!! Â The amazingly talented Casey Abrams had the lowest number of votes and shockingly faced elimination. Â Clearly performing early I think a lot of voters forgot about him. Â I am so glad the judges used their one save of the season to keep Casey!! Â I have a feeling a bit of this was staged on the judges part , but Casey had no idea and his face and reaction are quite emotional!! More fabulous stuff from last night's show!
It was Motown night on American Idol and one of the best show's ever!!  Everyone tried to bring their A game and while some succeeded , so did not.  Nobody gave a bad performance but as you know with American Idol some talent grows and some does not and it begins to show the further into the competition we get. My favorite performance belonged to Jacob Lusk doing a soulful rendition of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's "Your All I Need to Get By".  Steven Tyler actually ran up on stage to give Jacob a hug, call ing him baby Luther after Luther Vandross!  Ryan Seacrest  then invited the whole front row to do the same.  Who was your favorite?  Check out Jacob's incredible performance below!American Idol Top 11 Performances:

The Prom Rack has two events annually. The first is a private, one-day event for the benefit of youth in the foster care system. Each child is treated to a day of special attention from head to toe and is outfitted with full attire for their prom.The second is a community-wide event open to girls with financial limitations in the Austin area. This event will take place on April 7th, 2011 from 4:30-7:00 p.m. at the Capital City Events Center.(location)Donations of current prom dresses, like new shoes and accessories can be taken to any of our eight locations year-round.Please see our donation guidelines below:

Â No chemistry with James Franco and Anne Hathaway, but Anne clearly was the better of the two.There was also a redesign of "The Envelope" too! I am not a cook, but do love making a few select dishes. My favorite is meatballs, with Swedish meatballs being my specialty!  I found at that Oprah loves her meatballs too! Her favorite come at a price, $26 for 3 meatballs at Tratoria Mollie in Montecito California where Oprah lives!Thank you Mollie for sharing your recipe so we can make them at home. The secret ingrediant to these yummy meatballs is raisins!! Yes, raisins!! I plan on making these very soon, and you can too!! Enjoy!!
Turkey Meatball (Polpette alla Mollie)
makes 18 meatballsÂ
1 pound hot Italian turkey sausage
2 ounces fresh breadcrumbs , plus 10 ounces to coat meatballs
1 whole egg , plus 4 more for egg wash
2 ounces Parmesan cheese , plus extra for garnish
2 tablespoons fresh chopped Italian parsley
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
Pinch salt and pepper
2 tablespoons whipping cream
3 ounces black raisins
4 ounces white flour
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
2 cloves chopped garlic
12 tablespoons chopped shallot
1 tablespoon brandy
4 cups fresh tomato sauce
1 tablespoon fresh chopped oregano
Directions
Heat oil to 400 degrees F in deep fryer or large, heavy pot suitable for deep frying.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
In a large bowl combine sausage, 2 ounces breadcrumbs, 1 egg, 2 ounces Parmesan cheese, 1 tablespoon Italian parsley, crushed red pepper and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix together briefly to distribute seasonings. Add raisins and mix them in. Shape into 2.5-ounce meatballs and set aside.
Put flour in shallow bowl. In another bowl, beat four eggs. In a third bowl, put 10 ounces of fresh breadcrumbs.
Lightly coat meatballs in flour, dip in egg wash and roll in breadcrumbs coating meatballs evenly.
Using slotted spoon, cook batches of meatballs in deep fryer until golden. Remove from oil and drain on paper-lined plate.
Put olive oil in large frying pan on medium high heat. Add chopped garlic and shallots, cooking until golden. Stir in a pinch of red pepper and add brandy. Put tomato sauce into pan and transfer meatballs, covering them with sauce.
Put pan into preheated oven for 20 minutes, until meatballs are cooked. When finished, take out and garnish with 1 tablespoon Italian parsley, oregano and Parmesan cheese.
Serve alone or with pasta.
When visiting Chantal O's family in Seattle Brad got to meet her adorable puppy!! I am not sure what kind of dog this is but he is too cute for words!! I think Brad like the dog alot too, either way Chantal says her 2 cats and puppy are a package deal, they come with her!! I really don't think Brad will object to this cute little guy!!
It starting to get good...very good! Now that American Idol has whittled it down to the Top 50 contestants some amazing talent is starting to shine! Last night was the first time I have seen Jacob Lusk but I will never forget this performance...amazing!!
She's back!! Celine Dion arrived back in Las Vegas yesterday to get ready for her return to the stage at The Forum at Ceasar's Palace. She brought along her husband, her 9 year old son Renee Charles, and her adorable 4 month old twin boys Nelson and Eddy!

I grew up in Dearborn , Michigan just outside of Detroit  and until I moved to Austin in 2006, I lived and worked there.  I liked some of the Super Bowl commercials, but this one with Eminem for Chrysler really moved me.  I used to work at a radio station downtown and all of the landmarks here mean so much to me.  I worked in the building with the doorman and saw many fantastic performances at The Fox Theatre on Woodward Avenue.  I passed The Spirit of Detroit statue everyday on my way to work and the statue dedicated to Joe Louis (the fist you see in the commercial) is a landmark too.  This is such a powerful commercial in so many ways!
Living in Michigan for most of my life I am used to ice and snow, just not all the hills that Austin has!!  One thing I am glad I kept since moving to Austin in 2006 is my "Super Scraper"!! It comes with a brush to get the snow off of my car and and ice scraper to scrape off the ice!! I don't know if you can buy one here in Austin, but you can buy one here!! Hopefully I won't have to use if for another 5 years!!

This is so fantastic!! Here is a list of the new proposed guidelines for our children's lunches by the USDA. These are the first changes in over 15 years! What do you think?
The announcement is a proposal, and it could be several years before and schools are required to make changes.The new USDA guidelines would:
_ Establish the first calorie limits for school meals.
_ Gradually reduce the amount of sodium in the meals over 10 years, with the eventual goal of reducing sodium by more than half._ Ban most trans fats.
_ Require more servings of fruits and vegetables._ Require all milk served to be low fat or nonfat, and require all flavored milks to be nonfat._ Incrementally increase the amount of whole grains required, eventually requiring most grains to be whole grains._ Improve school breakfasts by requiring schools to serve a grain and a protein, instead of one or the other.

The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton.
The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.
Prince William and Miss Middleton became engaged in October during a private holiday in Kenya. Prince William has informed The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton¹s father.
Following the marriage, the couple will live in north Wales, where Prince William will continue to serve with the Royal Air Force.

Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer were first up with a Viennese waltz. Kyle then reached into the mirror ball and picked their next song, "Good Golly Miss Molly." Their jive earned them a combined score of 56 out of 60 for the night.
Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy performed the waltz before Brandy pulled out the song "Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry. Score: 57
Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya performed the waltz for their first routine, and then did a cha cha cha to "Hella Good" by No Doubt. Score: 48

A one of a kind Barbie doll by jewlery designer Stefano Canturo will be featured in an upcoming Christie's auction for between $300,000 to $ 500,000!   Once sold this Barbie will be the most expensive sold so far!! The doll is pictured above
Canturo spent four weeks designing every detail of the iconic doll from her black strapless dress to her hairstyle and makeup. The highlight of the Barbie, however, will be her collar necklace made from three carats of white diamonds and a one-carat Fancy Vivid purplish-pink diamond. Colored diamonds, according to Christie's, command more than $300,000 per carat and is the driving factor behind the Barbie's exorbitant estimate.

This morning at 7am the Frank Erwin Center began handing out wristbands for American Idol 10 auditions. These will be held this Wednesday, August 11th!  The wristbands are the only way to get into the auditions and are available until 8am the day of the auditions. My daughter was down there to get her's this morning and said the wait was not bad at all. Once you have your wristband you can begin to line up the audition process at 5am on Wednesday.  No camping out will be allowed at the Frank Erwin Center! Here is a link to the audition details!  Here is a link to the FAQ page! Good luck and let's make Austin the city to beat this coming season!!Â

I have always loved tennis, and this is the time of year for it! I usually spend my 4th of July weekend glued to the tv watching the Wimbledon finals.  The last time I played tennis myself was in high school on the tennis team. Those days are long gone, but when Loriana Hernandez and Fox 7 asked me to participate in the Dell Fox Get Fit Weekend to benefit Maggies Hope and organization helping families of children experiencing Austism , I said yes!  It was time to get off the couch and instead of watching tennis, begin playing again. Loriana and I will be playing in the Tennis Classic on Saturday July 24th at 1pm at The Lakeway World of Tennis! The longest tennis match in Wimbledon history just ended. It only took 11 hours and 5 mintues but the John Isner of the USA won. He beat Nicolas Mahut of France. The final score was 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (3), 70-68!! Amazing!! The longest tennis match prior to this one was at the French Open , that one lasted 6 hours 33 minutes back in 2004!! The 5th set of this match lasted 8 hours and 11 minutes, one for the history books!!

A beautiful black dress worn by the then Princess Diana was sold at auction for $276,000!! Experts thought they may get as much as $61,000 for it, but never underestimate the power of Lady Di! This was the dress she wore at 19 for her first date with Prince Charles. It was designed by the Emanuel's who also made her wedding gown. She only wore this dress once and not in public. Word is she lost so much weight prior to her wedding that a second smaller dress was made. The one that sold was the original though and is lovely. Who bought the dress? A fashion museum in Chile'!!

Last week I had the chance to meet a remarkable young woman named Danielle Villasana. She is in her Sophomore year at UT and she is part of a wonderful charity event called the Sense Corp Texas 4000. Each year a group of UT students bikes from Austin to Alaska to raise money for the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Danielle will be riding with next years team. The ride is a gruling 10 weeks, over 70 miles per day. The cost of the ride each year is around $50,000!! The team was luck enough to become part of the Pepsi Refresh Project and all they need are your votes to win a $50,000 grant so all of the proceeds from next years ride can be donated to MD Anderson.This is where you come in. Only the Top 10 vote getters will receive a grant, so we need your vote to help Danielle's team!! It's so easy. Just go to this link and vote once a day during the entire month of June, and we together can help fight cancer!! Check out my video of Danielle below, you will admire her as much as I do!! Thanks for your help!! Find out more about the Sense Corp Texas 4000 here!  Together we can work MAJIC!!!

Over the past few weeks I have learned about a wonderful annual event. It's the Sense Corp Texas 4000 For Cancer ride. This ride kicks off in June with just over 50 UT students taking a bike ride from Austin to Alaska to help raise money for MD Anderson and the American Cancer Society. These wonderful students will ride for 10 weeks and an average of 70 miles per day!! Amazing! I am so excited to help bring this to your attention. In the coming days I will be telling you more about the ride and how you can help next years team!! Tonight there is a Sunset Happy hour at the Oasis from 6pm to 8:30! Tickets are just $20 and you can find out more here!! The ride kicks off tomorrow morning at 8am!! The first leg of the journey is called The Atlas Ride and goes from Cedar Park to Lampasas, a 75 mile ride! Find out all the details here and come to see them off on this fantastic journey!!

London is the setting of the 2012 Summer Olympics! Today the new mascots for the games were revealed and for some they seem strange and different. Meet Wendlock and Mandeville! They are named after two small English towns.  One is representing the Olympics and the other the Paralympics.  They are also meant to represent the new digital age and have their own TV series. Check out the video below! What do you think?

As Music Director for Majic 95.5 I get asked hundreds of questions about the artists and music played on Majic 95.5! There is one question though that I am asked more than any other!  That question is....Who does the opening song for the Delilah show? This beautiful and soothing instrumental is everyone's favorite and believe it or not the song is 34years old!! I also found out the song was written by Carlos Santana, but has no guitar in it! So the answer to my most asked question is...."Europa"by Gato Barbieri! The song is off of his cd "Caliente" which was recorded back in 1976! I have put up a video of the original and a live performance with Gato and Carlos Santana performing it live in 1977!! Enjoy them and continue to ask your Majic 95.5 music question!  I love answering them all!!
I must admit I have not watched Saturday Night Live as much as I used to. I would tune in once in awhile, but I made sure to not only set my DVR, but to make sure I was planted firmly on my couch Saturday night to see the wonderful Betty White host! Not only was she wonderful but she gave SNL their best ratings in over 2 years!! Yesterday I could not find my cell phone! I would not even call it a cell phone anymore, I mean I can get my email, twitter, facebook, maps, banking, everything is in my phone! It took me a long time to get a smartphone, I have only had one for 6 weeks and already it has become glued to my arm. I honestly did not think this was possible, a phone addiction.  The worst part is, I have found myself checking it while driving!!! Yes, something I know I should not do, has almost gotten me in a few fender benders in the last 2 weeks!!!!  Self Magazine has a great article about the dangers of texting calling it the newest threat to America's health!!  Check it out here!Yesterday on my drive home up 360 for the first time in 6 weeks, I had no phone to check, it was upsetting, but you know what, it made me relax more and my life did not come to a halt because I was without my phone for the better part of my workday!!  It was a lesson I won't forget, and I know if I can go 8 hours without my smartphone, I can go 20 minutes without it for the drive home. When I woke up this morning and logged into my computer, the first thing I saw was the beautiful picture of Sandra Bullock, with the look of love an adoration directed at her beautiful new son!!  I know that we all have that look when we see our children, and it was wonderful to see Austin's own Sandra looking happy again!  While this is big news today, People magazine has long been putting celebrities and their babies on the cover of their magazine! I have to admit this year that DWTS has been more interesting and exciting to watch than American Idol. The drama on DWTS has been over the top this season , and American Idol , even with the addition of Ellen has been , well...boring! Last night was a big exception though with front runner  Crystal Bowersox, better know as Mama Sox to her fellow contestants did an emotional rendition of "People Get Ready". She broke down and shed a few tears near the end of the song which was already an emotional performance. And Kate Gosselins run on DWTS finally , and thankfully came to an end last night. Get out your Kleenex and watch both performances below if you missed them!
A few weeks ago I had no idea what an Eyjafjallajokull was and I still don't know how to pronounce it! Â Well it happens to be the name of a Volcano that not only erupted last week but all but paralized half of Europe whe airports were forced to shut down due to the jet stream pushing the thick volcanic ash across the continent!

I have to admit I love my handbags! I have been known to blow a weeks salary on the must have bag back in the day, who hasn't? Over the weekend I came across a handbag that would be more than a weeks pay, a month's pay and for most of us more than a year's pay! It's a Chanel handbag worth are you ready...$216,000 plus sales tax!! Let me just say that even if I had an extra $250,000 lying around this is not what I would choose to spend it on, but it is out there if your interested! I do have a favorite bag I would love to own from Fendi!!  A girl can dream right?

Women's Health Magazine has just released a list of the Top 28 Healthy Snacks! They also have a great quiz which I took this morning. It'a all about portion control and what 100 calories , good or bad , really look like! All of my favorite snacks were there, pretzel's , peanut M & M's, pizza, and of course french fries! I did pretty good too! 18 out of 24 right, so I can call myself a Master Snacker! Of course I am, aren't we all at one time or another!  Take this quiz, I found it really helpful, and realized I really do  have to cut out those french fries!!
