This is great news for all iPhone users, and parents may want to teach their kids about this feature too. In fact, if you look after elderly relatives, this is a great feature you'll want to enable on their phones as well:

Sometimes we find ourselves in scary situations and need to call 911. The problem is sometimes we cannot easily unlock the screen and dial. This new feature will let you call for help without saying a word. Depending on the type of emergency too, there are situations where it may be more dangerous to call 911 (abuse or an attack, etc.). So this new feature will save a lot of lives.

Can you accidentally call 911 though with this new feature? iOS 11 has a feature that tries to stop that from happening If you press the button five times it actually starts a three-second countdown (that makes sounds), you would have the chance to cancel the call if you dialed it accidentally.

So if you have the iPhone and you have iOS 11, set up this feature now. If your parents are elderly too, set it up on their phones now:

You never know when you'll need it. You can see how to set it up below.
