Once upon a time... A forbidden garden, a mysterious castle...A beauty. A beast. A ballet.
Multinational powerhouse 3M approached Stephen Mills with the idea of commissioning a world premiere work exploring the concept of innovation. After a yearlong process of exploration, Stephen's chain begins with the original fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast, written in 1746, with its story of the beautiful, young Belle and her captor. Two hundred years later this story inspired Jean Cocteau's 1946 ground-breaking film, and was then transformed into an operatic score by Philip Glass nearly fifty years later. This evolution inspired Stephen to reimagine the story through a multi-genre artistic collaboration that is sure to inspire innovation in all of us. Perfect date night show to celebrate Valentine's Day weekend with youur sweetheart.
Original Score by Graham Reynolds, commissioned by the Texas Commission on the Arts Choreography by Stephen Mills. Program notes and more here.
